Senior Researcher

Biographical data:

Born in 1964. From 1982 to 1987, she studied at Vilnius University, Faculty of History, and obtained a historian’s diploma with a specialization as a museum specialist–archaeologist. From 1987 to 1995, she worked at the Klaipėda Regional Museum (from 1989 – History Museum of Lithuania Minor) as a research fellow in the Folk Art Department and the Archaeology and Urban Development Sector, and from 1991 as Head of the Archaeology and Urban Development Department. From 1995 to 2000 she pursued doctoral studies at Vilnius University (Department of Archaeology). On 10 October 2001 she defended her doctoral dissertation at Vilnius University on the topic “The Cultural Area of West Lithuanian Cemeteries with Stone Circles in the 3rd century – early 5th century” and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities. From 1996 to 1999 she held a secondary position at Klaipėda University Department of History, as an assistant (research assistant at the Centre for the History of Western Lithuania and Prussia). She taught a course on Ancient Greek and Roman history and an elective archaeology course “Lithuania in the Roman Period”(1997/1998). From 1999 to 2005, she worked at the National Museum of Lithuania as a senior museum specialist. Since 2005, she has been a researcher at the Lithuanian Institute of History, Department of Archaeology, and since 2017, a senior researcher.

Main research areas:

Baltic tribes; the Eastern Baltic region during the Roman and Migration periods, with special attention to cultural interactions among different areas of this region, as well as processes in European Barbaricum and influences from the Roman provinces. A significant part of the publications focuses on refining chronology, and one of the key source bases used includes not only museum finds but also archival archaeological data.
