Prof. dr. Violeta Davoliūtė is the president-elect of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS).
Following an election of the AABS 2026–2028 Board of Directors, prof. V. Davoliūtė was granted the responsibilities of aiding the current President Daina Eglitis in the carrying out of her duties in a coordinated effort to provide a continuity of Association’s administration. Prof. V. Davoliūtė will automatically succeed to the Presidency at the end of the two year term following her election to the office of the President-Elect.
Prof. V. Davoliūtė is the first president elected by the AABS who works in the Baltic region rather than in the diaspora.
In 2004, prof. dr. V. Davoliūtė defended the dissertation “Testimony: from the Poetics of Place to the Politics of Memory” at the University of Toronto. Later prof. dr. V. Davoliūtė worked and completed internships at various academic institutions in the United States, Europe, and Lithuania. Her main research interests are Memory studies, Nationalism studies, Forced migrations and displacements, Cultural policy and ideology.
The AABS promotes research and education in Baltic Studies by sponsoring meetings and conferences, supporting publications, sustaining a program of scholarships, grants, and prizes, and disseminating news of current interest in Baltic Studies. Founded in 1968, at the first conference on Baltic Studies at the University of Maryland, the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies is an international educational and scholarly non-profit organization. Since 1991, it has been a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies.
